What
to do in an Emergency
If
you have an emergency, call your primary care physician (PCP) no matter
what time it is.
Your PCP
or an associate will contact you and give you instructions. They will
be the best judges of how and where your emergency should be treated.
If you are in jeopardy because of one of the life-threatening emergencies
listed below, call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately.
- Severe injury
- Heart attack symptoms
- Severe bleeding
- Loss of consciousness
- Breathing difficulties
- Fever of more than 104° Fahrenheit
- Major burns
- Shock
In
life–threatening emergency situations, coordinating with your PCP beforehand
may not be possible. In these situations, contact your PCP within two
working days after you receive the nearest available emergency care.
Also,
if you are admitted to the hospital because of the emergency, you must
contact your PCP within two working days of your admission and contact
Deseret Healthcare for preauthorization.
