The Senior Service Medical Plan (SSMP) is an Aetna International plan available to full-time missionaries called
by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve away from their homes. The plan helps them comply
with the requirement that senior missionaries provide “for their own health care expenses” and have health
insurance “adequate for their mission assignments.” Coverage is effective only during the mission but may be
extended for up to three months after the mission, if elected. The plan is not intended to replace other medical
insurance the individual should have and maintain.
